About
I'm Sophia. I teach meditation online — a free session every Wednesday evening, a four-week course for people starting out, private coaching, and recordings made for one person at a time.
I work from Vancouver, British Columbia, which means it doesn't matter where you are.

Before this
Twenty years in technology. Sales teams built and run across Canada, the US and India; people trained to work across all three.
I came to meditation from inside that world, not from outside it — not as someone who had always sat quietly, but as someone whose mind wouldn't switch off.
I'm still in it. That's the point: this is a practice built for a working life, not instead of one.
Why the difficult feelings
Almost everything I teach is built around grief, loneliness, anxiety and the heavy stretches — rather than focus, or productivity, or calm in general.
That's deliberate. Those are the times when people most need somewhere to put their attention, and when they are least likely to be given anything practical to do. People are told to look after themselves and are rarely shown how, and the advice tends to arrive in the first week and stop long before the hard part does.
Meditation is not a solution to any of it. But it is something to do with your hands at three in the morning, and it is a way of being with your own experience that is less punishing than the alternative.

How I teach
You'll never be asked to speak, to share anything, or to be on camera. There's no going round the group, nothing to prepare, and nothing to have read beforehand.
Beginners are the majority everywhere here — in the Wednesday sessions, in the course, in the private work. If you've tried meditation before and it didn't hold, that's the most common story I hear, and it usually says more about how it was taught than about you.
I teach practical things. Where to put your attention. What to do when the mind won't settle. How to sit with something painful without being flooded by it. Nothing requires a belief system.
What this isn't
I'm not a therapist, and none of this is therapy. If you're carrying something that needs professional support, meditation sits alongside that — it doesn't replace it, and I'll say so if I think that's what's needed.
It also isn't religious. I trained in meditation and in Reiki, and I hold this work with real care, but nothing I teach asks you to believe anything at all.
Training
- Certified International Meditation Coach.
- Holy Fire III Usui Reiki Master/Teacher.
- More than twenty years working with executives and senior professionals, first in technology and now in this.
Come to a Wednesday
The easiest way to find out whether any of this suits you is to come to one.
Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM PT I hold a free healing meditation online. About 45 minutes. Camera off if you'd rather, nothing asked of you, and no charge.
If you'd rather read first, there are written guides → on how to begin, and on grief, anxiety, loneliness and sleep.
