I've never meditated before — is this okay for beginners?

Yes, and beginners are the majority everywhere here. Nothing assumes previous experience, and everything is explained while we're doing it. If you've tried before and it didn't hold, that's the most common story I hear — it usually says more about how it was taught than about you.

What if I can't sit still, or my mind never stops?

Then you're describing meditation accurately. A mind that wanders isn't a sign you're doing it wrong; noticing that it wandered is the practice itself. And you don't have to sit still — a chair is fine, lying down is fine.

What do I need?

A device with a browser and somewhere to sit. No Zoom account, no app, no cushion. Headphones help if there are other people in the house, but they aren't necessary.

How long is each session?

The free Wednesday meditations run about 45 minutes. Sessions in the four-week course are 45 to 60 minutes.

Do I have to be on camera?

No. Most people aren't. Turn it off before you join if you'd rather — it makes no difference to the session.

Will I have to speak or share anything?

No. There's no going round the group, no introductions, nothing to prepare. You can attend everything without saying a word, and several people do.

What if I get upset during a session?

It happens, often, and it's an ordinary thing rather than a problem. With your camera off nobody will know unless you want them to. If you need to leave partway through, leave — you won't be asked about it.

What if I can't make it live?

Sessions in the four-week course are recorded and sent within 24 hours. The free Wednesday meditations aren't recorded — they're live only — so if you miss one, come to the next.

What does it cost?

The Wednesday meditations are free, always. The four-week course and private coaching are by enquiry.

Do I have to commit to multiple months?

No. The Wednesdays are drop-in — come once, come every week, come when something is heavy and not otherwise. The course is four weeks and then it's finished; nothing continues afterwards unless you want it to.

What if it's not for me?

Come to the first two sessions of the course. If it isn't right, tell me and I'll refund you in full, with no explanation needed. And if the Wednesdays aren't for you, they've cost you nothing but an evening.

Is this religious, or tied to a tradition?

No. I trained in meditation and in Reiki, and I hold this work with care, but nothing I teach asks you to believe anything at all.

Is this therapy?

No, and it isn't a substitute for it. Meditation sits alongside professional support rather than replacing it. If you're carrying something that needs a therapist or a doctor, I'll say so.

Where are you based, and does it matter where I am?

I'm in Vancouver, British Columbia. Everything is online, so it doesn't matter where you are — people join from different time zones, and the Wednesday sessions are at 7:00 PM Pacific.

What's the difference between the Wednesday sessions and the course?

The Wednesdays are a guided meditation — you turn up and are led through one. The course teaches you to do it yourself, so that after four weeks you have a practice you can do without me.
